About the Test
HBV is a viral infection that affects the liver. This test checks for the blood levels of hepatitis B antigens and antibodies to determine if a person has an infection or has developed immunity against the hepatitis B virus. The results can distinguish between an acute infection (symptoms last for less than 6 months), chronic infection (symptoms last for longer than 6 months), and immunity, as well as immunity from previous infection or vaccination.
